From responsibly sourced timber to waste reduction and energy efficiency, we continually look for ways to improve our environmental practices while maintaining the quality and performance of our fire doorsets.
Responsible Timber Sourcing
Responsible timber sourcing is an important part of our commitment to sustainable fire door manufacturing. We work with established timber suppliers who hold FSC® (FSC-C007658) and PEFC (PEFC/16-37-046) certifications, supporting responsible forest management and sustainable timber supply chains.
Our timber suppliers have held FSC certification since 2001 and were among the first ten companies in the UK to achieve PEFC certification when the scheme was established in 2003.
They also hold ISO 14001 environmental management certification, demonstrating their commitment to managing and improving environmental performance across their operations, including energy consumption, transport, treatment processes and waste management.
Carbon Footprint and Biogenic Carbon information is also available across their timber-based product range through a dedicated carbon calculator. This information can be provided on quotations, invoices and supporting documentation upon request, offering greater transparency around the environmental impact of the materials used in our fire doorsets.
Reducing Manufacturing Waste
At our manufacturing facility in Rustington, West Sussex, we continually look for ways to minimise waste generated during the production of our FD30S and FD60S fire doorsets.
Our waste reduction practices include:
- Separating timber offcuts for potential reuse.
- Recycling cardboard, plastics, metals and packaging materials.
- Monitoring timber waste generated during doorset manufacturing.
- Working with waste management contractors who prioritise recycling and recovery over landfill disposal.
- Improving material efficiency through accurate cutting and precision manufacturing machinery.
By making better use of materials and improving production processes, we aim to reduce unnecessary waste throughout our manufacturing operations.
Reducing Transport & Vehicle Emissions
We understand that transportation contributes to our overall environmental impact. We therefore look for practical ways to reduce unnecessary vehicle mileage and improve delivery efficiency.
Our approach includes planning delivery routes to minimise travel distances, grouping deliveries to nearby projects, avoiding unnecessary return journeys and monitoring vehicle fuel consumption.
Where practical, we also work with local suppliers to help reduce transportation requirements and support businesses within our surrounding area.
Improving Energy Efficiency
We continue to look for opportunities to improve energy efficiency throughout our West Sussex manufacturing facility and offices.
Our ongoing efforts include:
- Installing energy-efficient LED lighting.
- Monitoring electricity consumption across our premises.
- Switching off machinery and equipment when not in use.
- Improving insulation and heating efficiency.
- Reducing paper consumption through digital systems and electronic documentation.
By making improvements across our premises, we aim to reduce unnecessary energy consumption and create more efficient working practices.
